Speaking further of humanism, I don't usually critique your reporting (which I love!) but I think the last few paragraphs of DW's report on the farmers, concerning the Green's position (that it's not energy costs but cut-rate food prices that are undermining farmers) was worth maybe 3 more words than "it's complicated". (ab)using their market power to pressure farmers into selling their wares at rock-bottom prices, with devastating effects on small-scale agriculture. On the policy side, farmers are under pressure to invest in animal welfare, environmental protection and clean tech. They've felt these conflicted pressures for some time, and the diesel subsidy cut was the straw that broke the camel's back.
